The Ultimate Glow Girl Prep Guide
If you want a chef’s kiss, smooth-as-glass, camera-ready bronze… your prep routine matters just as much as the actual spray tan.
Think of your skin as the canvas — and your glow as the masterpiece. 🎨✨
A flawless tan doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because your skin is hydrated, exfoliated, balanced, and READY to grab color like a goddess.
So let’s dive into the exact steps to make your spray tan last longer, fade smoother, and look absolutely luminous.
Spray tan solution doesn’t tan your body — it tans the top layer of dead skin cells.
So if those skin cells are:
✔ dry
✔ uneven
✔ patchy
✔ oily
✔ freshly shaved
✔ covered in residue
…your glow is going to cling, skip, or fade weird.
Proper prep =
✨ deeper color
✨ smoother application
✨ zero patchiness
✨ a longer-lasting glow
✨ a more even fade
This is your glow blueprint, babe.
Follow these steps and your tan will look rich, radiant, and ridiculously smooth.
✔ 1. Do Your Full Body Exfoliation
Use: a mitt, dry brush, or gentle scrub.
Focus on:
Remove ALL old tan, sweat, deodorant buildup, and dead skin.
Avoid oil-based scrubs — they leave a residue that blocks spray tan absorption.
Glow girl tip:
Use an exfoliation mitt with warm water + circular motions.
✔ 2. Shave, Wax, or Derma-plane—NOW, Not Later
Hair removal should be done at least 24 hours before, so your pores can close.
Otherwise?
Your legs may look speckled or dotted once the bronzer settles in (no thank you 😭).
✔ 3. Moisturize Well, but Not Right Before
The day BEFORE your tan:
Load up on moisturizer to hydrate and soften the skin.
BUT DO NOT MOISTURIZE the day of your tan
(except in specific dry areas — more on that below).
✔ 4. Avoid Heavy Products
No heavy lotions, no oils, no Dove body wash, no spray deodorant, no self-tanner remnants.
These clog the skin and block DHA development.
✔ 5. Take a Lukewarm Rinse
NO soap,
NO shaving,
NO exfoliating.
Just a quick rinse to remove sweat or skincare product residue.
✔ 6. Arrive With a Clean, Product-Free Body
This means no:
❌ deodorant
❌ bronzer
❌ makeup on body
❌ lotion
❌ perfume
❌ body oil
All of these cause streaking, greenish undertones, or uneven absorption.
✔ 7. Apply Only Approved Light Moisture to Dry Spots
Just before your tan, lightly moisturize ONLY:
These areas grab too much color.
We want them soft, not dark and crusty. 💁♀️✨
Use a water-based moisturizer, not an oil-based one.
✔ 8. Wear the Right Outfit
This is non-negotiable, babe.
Wear:
✔ dark, loose clothing
✔ loose cotton shorts or a drapey dress
✔ loose bra (or no bra)
✔ open-toed shoes or slides
Avoid:
❌ leggings
❌ jeans
❌ sports bras
❌ tight straps
❌ fuzzy socks
❌ leather that will rub
Anything tight will imprint onto your fresh tan like a tattoo. We don’t want a zipper stripe across your belly.
Here’s what will RUIN your results if done too close to your appointment:
❌ Spray deodorant
❌ Perfume or scented lotion
❌ Oil-based shower products
❌ Fresh shaving (hello strawberry legs)
❌ Facials or peels
❌ Makeup wipes residue
❌ Hot tubs
❌ Sauna or gym sesh
❌ Sunscreen within 6–8 hours of your appointment
Remove anything that creates a barrier between your skin + glow.
Good prep = smooth skin.
Smooth skin = more even DHA absorption.
More even absorption = a tan that fades gracefully, not patchy.
With proper prep, your tan can last:
✨ 7–10 days with a rapid
✨ 10–14 days with a luxury solution + extender
Prep is everything, glow girl.
Before your appointment, ask yourself:
If the answer is YES — you’re ready to glow.
Prepping for your tan isn’t extra — it’s essential.
When you follow these steps, your skin becomes the perfect smooth canvas for a long-lasting, glowing, natural bronzed finish.
At Let’s Glow Girls PSU, prep isn’t just a routine — it’s a ritual.
A moment to take care of yourself, honor your body, and get ready to walk out shining like the radiant queen you are.
